It is important that you arrive to court early on the date stated on your ticket, summons, subpoena or court notice. Upon arrival, check in with the court to make sure you are on the docket. When the court session begins, the names of all parties being heard will be called. If you are not there when your name is called a second time, a bench warrant may be issued for your arrest. It is therefore very important that you appear in court if instructed, and on time. The court hears cases in a particular order, with those pleading not guilty pro se (without an attorney) being heard last. It is highly recommended that you hire an experienced Jackson Municipal Court lawyer to represent you in your defense if you want to be heard faster.
New Jersey municipal courts hear a wide variety of matters, which include traffic violations, disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses, violations of municipal ordinances and more. A court appearance is required in criminal matters and DWI charges. Additionally, if “court appearance required” is checked on your traffic summons, you must appear in court at the time and place indicated, even if you wish to plead guilty.
