Appearing at the Tuckerton Municipal Court
If you miss your first court session, immediately call the court administrator to reschedule or a Failure to Appear notice may be issued, and an arrest warrant could be generated in your name at the judge's discretion.
If you have been charged in a criminal matter, DWI, or if “court appearance required” is checked on your summons, you must appear in court. However, if you wish to plead not guilty, even if you're not required to appear, the court directs that you must call the court office prior to the date listed on your summons or subpoena to advise them of your not guilty plea.
It is always to your benefit to plead not guilty, because you will gain an opportunity to negotiate with the municipal prosecutor to plead guilty to a lesser charge. The court administrator will take you off the calendar for that date, then advise you of your new date by mail. You must make certain that the court has your correct address so you don't miss this very important date.
