The Best Way to Handle Your Divorce

Posted by Vincent C. DeLuca | Sep 08, 2020 | 0 Comments

Without question a divorce is one of the most if not the most traumatic events that will occur in your adult life.  A divorce involves a combination of both highly emotional and financial issues.  In order to not only survive the process but to come out of it ok, requires a lot of thought and planning.  The first thing someone should do when contemplating a divorce is to educate themselves on the divorce laws and how they would apply to their particular set of circumstances.  One can accomplish this by doing their own due diligence by way of research on the internet.  However, the information obtained by way of the internet should not be controlling.  It is a good place to start.

It makes perfect sense to speak with experts in the area where you live to obtain credible reliable information about the divorce process . The first thing that you would want to do would be to schedule a consultation with a qualified divorce attorney , preferably one who limits his or her practice to the issues involving family law . Just as you would not want an electrician to paint your house you would not want a real estate attorney to handle your divorce . When making a selection as to who will represent you through the divorce process you may want to inquire as to the attorney's level of experience , reputation in the legal community, as well as certifications obtained by the attorney in the matrimonial field .

By way of example the New Jersey Supreme Court recognizes certain attorneys as having been certified in matrimonial law . This designation is granted to attorneys who are able to demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge and skill in matrimonial law .   It may make sense to reach out to one of these attorneys to assist you through the divorce process.   A very small percent of attorneys have received the designation of being certified in matrimonial law .

It is also advisable to build a team around you when you are embarking on the divorce process . In some cases it may make sense to have a therapist assist you with the emotional issues or a divorce coach who can work in tandem with your divorce attorney to assist you through the process . Depending on the case it may also make sense to have a financial planner work with the attorney and the divorce coach to assure that you will be in a position to succeed both emotionally and financially once your divorce has been finalized .
