NJ Men Facing Drug Charges for Allegedly Selling to Minor

Posted by Carmine R. Villani | Oct 27, 2014 | 0 Comments

Marijuana possession and distribution in New Jersey can lead to serious penalties according to state law. However, distribution charges tend to carry heavier penalties than possession, and when you factor in distribution to minors in a designated school zone, penalties increase once again. That's exactly what two men in Nutley Township found out the hard way.
The two men were arrested for allegedly selling marijuana to a middle school student just outside Nutley High School in the back seat of a car on Friday. According to a report by NJ.com, one of the men stood watch while the other man completed the transaction. One man was released after paying a portion of his $75,000 bail, while the other man was released pending the date of a trial.
The 13-year-old girl who allegedly purchased marijuana from the two men was also released into the custody of her parents. She will face a juvenile hearing for charges of marijuana possession.

Typical Penalties for Possession and Distribution of Marijuana in NJ

Depending on the quantity of marijuana, charges for possession and distribution can range greatly. However, serious charges of marijuana distribution with the intent to distribute can carry penalties of up to a $300,000 fine and twenty years in prison for a first-degree crime. A suspension of your driver's license is also required. If you are found guilty of marijuana distribution within a designated school zone or a public park, you might face mandatory jail time without parole.
