NJ DUI Prevention Program: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

Posted by Carmine R. Villani | Dec 11, 2014 | 0 Comments

The DUI prevention campaign Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over was launched in 1999 as a national campaign, and it has been running in all 50 states ever since. The campaign is back in New Jersey this winter as a way of preventing drunk driving deaths during the holiday season. This most recent campaign states that law enforcement will be “cracking down” from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2.

Avoid a NJ DUI This Winter

The best way to avoid a NJ DUI is by not drinking at all when you plan to drive. Law enforcement in New Jersey will be on the lookout for potential drunk drivers, and DUI road blocks will be more frequent. If you do decide to drink and you need to get home afterwards, there are always options available to you.

Designated Driver

Try to have a designated sober driver with you. If you are going to a party or a bar with your friends, discuss who will be driving home before you leave. A designated driver is one of the safest and smartest ways to avoid a NJ DUI.

Public Transportation

Traveling by train or bus is another great option. If you are going somewhere that is easily accessible by public transportation, make sure you consider it as an option before you leave your home. NJ Transit has a number of lines throughout the state that can get you to where you are going.

Call a Cab

If you find yourself in a situation without a designated driver or easily accessible public transportation options, always be sure to call a cab instead of opting to drive. Taking a risk like driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never smart and never worth the consequences of a potential vehicle collision or NJ DUI charge.
If you do not have the phone number of a cab service, try this NJ DWI phone app!
A DUI charge in New Jersey can lead to a suspension of your driver's license for an extended period of time, expensive fines and even time in jail. Don't take the risk.

Drunk Driving Statistics

• Impaired driving kills someone every 30 minutes in the United States and about 50 people every day.
• Nearly 18,000 people die every year because of drunk or impaired driving and 250,000 injuries occur annually.
• There were 164 deaths in New Jersey in 2012 because of drunk driving.
