Don’t be Ignorant when Going Through a Divorce

Divorce Mediation in Ocean County

When contemplating or going through the divorce process in New Jersey, you must make sure that you have the requisite understanding of all of the financial aspects of your marriage . It would make a lot of sense to conduct a financial inventory prior to scheduling your initial consult with the divorce attorney.

The financial inventory would include gathering financial documents such as prior years' tax returns, investment statements, 401K statements, bank balances , credit card information , mortgage balance information, the approximate fair market value of your home , information pertaining to any pensions , health insurance information , college cost information, etc.

The more information that you have readily available to the attorney, the less expensive it will be as the attorney does not have to undertake additional measures to ascertain the financial facts of your case .

In the event you are able to obtain this information prior to an initial consult with a divorce lawyer, the more effective and productive the initial meeting will be .  When supplied with the appropriate information the divorce lawyer will be able to give you better advice as well as make more accurate predictions as to how your case should and will resolve itself .

It is not uncommon for one party going through this process to not have the requisite understanding as it relates to the financial aspects of the divorce . Traditionally one spouse would be entrusted with running the household and the other spouse would be entrusted with managing the finances .

At the onset of the process it's not overwhelmingly important to understand all of the aspects of the information that you are gathering . It is more important that you gather the information and provide same to the qualified professional to help you review it .

Partner Vincent C. DeLuca has been effectively handling divorces for over 25 years.  He will be able to help you understand all the financial aspects of your divorce and will guide you through the process effectively and cost efficiently .
