Economy has an Effect on NJ Divorce Rate
The Divorce Rate in New Jersey are some of the lowest in the country. A recent survey revealed that nine percent (9%) of New Jersey adults are divorced compared with fifty-two percent (52%) of whom are still married, ranking it last among the states in the percentage of residents 18 and older who are divorced. Recent research shows that marriages last longer when people get married at an older age, have a higher education and earn more money. The median age for first marriages in the State of New Jersey is 30.2 for men and 28.5 for women. Interestingly enough, the divorce rate has doubled in the past two decades with respect to the number of couples who are over fifty years of age. Some sociologists have called this the “gray divorce revolution”. The main reason cited was the downturn in the economy.
