Synthetic Marijuana Now Illegal in NJ

Synthetic Marijuana Now Illegal in New Jersey: 10 Days to Turn Over Without Penalty!

On February 29, 2013, State Attorney General of New Jersey announced a State Ban on Synthetic Marijuana. Synthetic Marijuana has previously been sold in small packets at convenience stores, gas stations, and boardwalk concessions. A favorite legal drug of the Jersey shore, the fake marijuana was frequently sold on boardwalk stores throughout Ocean and Monmouth Counties. Anyone who is in possession of the drug has 10 days to turn it in to the police. If you have been charged with an offense of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), you need to immediately contact an experienced Jersey Shore criminal defense attorney. Partner of the firm, Carmine Villani, Esq. has decades of experience trying drug related offenses in Ocean and Monmouth County as a municipal prosecutor, public defender, and private defense attorney. He has successfully defended clients who were charged with possession of marijuana.

This new ban is broad and comprehensive in scope to make up for a weaker ban that was previously entered last year. The prior ban, made into law last Spring, proved ineffective by mid-Summer as variations of the synthetic marijuana were made available that fell outside of the ban. Immediately after the drug ban was effectuated, drug producers began creating new toxic products with that have similar effects on the brain but not illegal. Synthetic marijuana was first introduced in 2002 where they were marketed to contain 100% organic herbs and not trigger a positive drug test result. In truth, synthetic marijuana contains chemicals such as HU-210, CP 47,497, and JWH-018. These are synthetic cannabinoid agonists that are not similar in structure to THC (the main ingredient in marijuana). It is typically sold in small packets weighing between 500 milligrams and 3 grams each and packaged as bath salts, potpourri, incense or other seemingly harmless products but when smoked has hallucinogenic effects.
