Court Procedures at Ocean Township Municipal Court

Court sessions at Ocean Township Municipal Court generally begin with roll call, during which you must be present to confirm your appearance. It is extremely important that you arrive on time. Missing roll call can result in the judge issuing an arrest warrant in your name, and possibly suspending your driving privileges.
You must also notify the Court Administrator of your not guilty plea at least 7 days before your court or payment due date. Failing to do so will often result in the Prosecutor not being prepared to argue your case. Not only will you have to return on a separate court date, but you may be assessed a higher fine and court costs if your offense did not require a court appearance.
Cases for New Jersey municipal courts are usually heard in a specific order, with pleas of not guilty without the help of a lawyer being heard last. Hiring legal representation is beneficial, since you will be better informed of your rights, and are likely to be heard faster.
