Information About Appearing at Long Branch Municipal Court

If the “court appearance required” box is checked on your summons, you are required to appear in court, even if you are planning to plead not guilty. If you have specific questions about the court or your summons, please call the Long Branch Municipal Court directly at (732) 571-6500. The court’s automated phone system is very helpful in answering many common questions, or directing you to individuals who can assist you further. The automated phone system is available in both English and Spanish.
Prior to entering the court room, you must check in with the court staff and either turn off or silence your cell phone. Since these hearings are sound recorded, it is imperative that you do not eat or drink in the courtroom, and do not speak until it is your turn to do so.
In cases that involve a dispute between two parties, you may be required to participate in arbitration with a court appointed mediator. This gives both parties a chance to settle the dispute without a hearing in front of the judge. Since most cases do go before the judge, it’s important to note that defendants pleading not guilty pro se (without an attorney) are usually heard last. It is recommended that you hire an experienced Long Branch attorney in order to be heard faster.
