Allentown Municipal Court Judge and Staff

Court cases for Allentown Municipal Court are heard by the Honorable Douglas Hoffman. Administrative tasks associated with the court’s operations are handled by the court office, managed by Court Administrator Rita Williams.

Allentown Municipal Court Hours of Operation

The court office of Allentown Municipal Court is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You may contact the Court Administrator during those hours if you have questions about your summons or need to make a payment. Keep in mind that payments for traffic or parking tickets can be paid online at www.njmcdirect.com. The NJMC Direct system only accepts Visa and MasterCard logo card payments, and you will be assessed a convenience fee for using this service.
Court sessions are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. It is best to arrive early, since it will give you a chance to check in with the Court Administrator and the Municipal Prosecutor before your hearing. Since Allentown Municipal Court hearings are sound recorded, please shut off or silence your cell phone, and do not speak unless you are directed to do so.

Your Rights as a Defendant at Allentown Municipal Court

The New Jersey court system entitles you to certain rights as a defendant in order to ensure that you receive a fair trial. With fairness in mind, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty.  You also have the right to be fully informed of your charges, and to testify or not testify on your own behalf.
Since the court office cannot offer you legal advice, you have the right to retain an attorney. An experienced Allentown Municipal Court attorney can help you make an informed decision about how to resolve your municipal violation. Should you decide to appear in court, having a lawyer is essential in putting together a solid defense.  Having a lawyer is also beneficial at the hearing itself, since defendants with lawyers are normally heard before those pleading not guilty pro se (without a lawyer).
Hiring a lawyer also increases your chances of having your charges reduced, thereby avoiding serious consequences such as suspension of your driving privileges and jail time. A lawyer can even assist you with post-trial actions such as filing an appeal if you are convicted, which must be done within 20 days of your trial.
