Structure of the Divorce Court in Ocean County
In Ocean County the Divorce Court is located within the Family Division of the Ocean County Superior Court. This division handles near 20,000 cases each year. The Family Division attempts to resolve issues related to divorce/dissolution, as well as non-dissolution types of matters that are often ancillary issues to a couple’s divorce. How to File for Divorce in the Ocean County Divorce Court
There are some important rules in place to ensure that the divorce complaint is drafted correctly. First, regardless of fault, at least one party needs to be a New Jersey resident. Upon drafting the complaint and filing it in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, the responding party (defendant) will have thirty-five days to file an answer or counterclaim. Both parties to the pending divorce will also need to file a case information statement before attending the case management conference.
