Marijuana Possession in NJ Includes “Pot Candy”

Posted by Carmine R. Villani | Nov 03, 2014 | 0 Comments

The New Jersey State Police issued a statement this year warning parents of an increase in marijuana candy in the state that could have ended up in the Halloween candy supply. Luckily, there were no reports of any cannabis candy being handed out to children in New Jersey to date. Yet the warning from police does demonstrate a change in the way marijuana is distributed around the country and the state.
Law enforcement believes that candy infused with marijuana is showing up in New Jersey and the surrounding area because of legalization of marijuana possession in states like Colorado. Candy that has been infused with THC is prevalent in Colorado and legal, according to its state laws, to purchase for persons over the age of 18. This makes it possible for pot candy to find its way across state lines.
The New Jersey state police did claim that it is unlikely that anyone would pass out marijuana to children or anyone else as it is expensive, but there is a possibility of marijuana candy accidentally ending up being consumed by a child whether it is during Halloween or any other time of the year.

Can You Detect Marijuana Candy?

Marijuana candy may be difficult to detect in many instances because it looks and tastes like popular brands of candy found in the United States. However, it might also have a distinct marijuana smell. THC can be added to any kind of candy, including chocolate, and hard and soft candy.
